Fresh Start

Issue # 3

How did we do last time? The last game was Spain vs England for the Final of Euros 2024. Spain came to the final undefeated, scoring 13 goals along the way. England came in with a shaky start, picking up a couple of draws but ultimately finding for near the end.

Throughout the tournament, we gathered more and more data and predicted a 1-0 win to Spain to finish the competition. We expected Spain to be aggressive but still expected the final to make them play cautious. While our predicted score was conservative, Spain did ultimately win the final 2-1. So not bad.

Fresh Start and Moving Forward

Now that the Euros have ended, our attention turns to the Premier League. There is tons and tons of data for this competition, which makes our next AI ventures even more fun.

Manchester City are likely to lead the table by Christmas due to their squad depth and tactical prowess under Pep Guardiola. Their ability to rotate players efficiently helps them manage the congested fixture schedule, especially with European commitments. Key signings and the consistent form of star players like Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland provide a solid foundation for their dominance.

Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, continue their upward trajectory with a youthful and dynamic squad. The maturation of players like Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard, combined with strategic summer signings, bolster their title challenge. Their early season form is expected to be strong, leveraging their high-pressing style and attacking flair.

Chelsea, under new managerial leadership, face an initial period of adjustment but find their rhythm by Christmas. The influx of new signings and the tactical acumen of their manager allow them to compete strongly. Their young and talented squad, combined with experienced players, ensures they remain in the top five.

Leicester City, newly promoted, adapt well to the Premier League. Their experience and quality in the squad, including the likes of James Maddison and Jamie Vardy, help them secure a respectable position. Leicester’s tactical flexibility and ability to score crucial goals give them an edge over other promoted teams.

Everton’s financial struggles and inconsistency place them in a precarious position. Despite efforts from manager Sean Dyche and key players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, they fail to find stability. Everton’s lack of squad depth and defensive weaknesses contribute to their low position.
